HELLO, EVERYONE. THIS IS GORDON COLE SPEAKING. I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT POKEMON EVOLUTION, AND I’M HOPING SOMEONE OUT THERE CAN ANSWER IT. NOW, I’VE READ THE HANDBOOK AND UNDERSTAND THAT POKEMON CAN CHANGE FORMS FOR SEVERAL REASONS, BUT I’M A LITTLE CONFUSED ABOUT SOMETHING. YESTERDAY, MY KRICKETOT EVOLVED INTO A KRICKETUNE. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS NORMAL.
[Or as normal as the Pokémon world gets anyway.]
WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THOUGH, IS HOW COMMON IS IT FOR A POKEMON TO MAKE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOISE AFTER EVOLVING. I CAN ACTUALLY HEAR THIS SOMETIMES, AND I’M PRETTY SURE IT DIDN’T MAKE THAT NOISE BEFORE. IT SOUNDS LIKE…ACTUALLY, LET ME SHOW YOU.
GO AHEAD. IT’S RECORDING.
[There’s some silence, and then… this.]
IT’S REALLY STRANGE. ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT’S NORMAL FOR POKEMON TO GROW A MUSTACHE AFTER EVOLVING? BECAUSE THIS ONE DID. AT LEAST IT LOOKS LIKE A MUSTACHE. I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHAT IT IS.

On the other hand, Gordon's cricket thing used to be small and pudgy and harmless. What the hell happened here?
And what is the deal with that mustache?]
WELL, IT SHOT UP ABOUT TWO FEET IN HEIGHT SINCE THE LAST TIME I SAW IT. MAYBE SOMETHING SHIFTED AROUND IN THERE TO TAKE UP THE SPACE, AND THAT ALTERED THE PITCH OF ITS NOISE.

IT'S BIGGER. THE PHYSIOLOGY CHANGED. MAYBE THAT'S WHY THE NOISE CHANGED.

[Gordon thinks he might be on to something there.]

YES, SIR. THAT'D BE MY BET.
[He is sort of cautiously approaching the Kricketune now, because he tends to maintain a sort of professional reservation about things with scythes for hands that are not under his direct control. Assuming it's the same bug, though, the temperament probably didn't change that much with evolution, and he doubts there'd be an issue...but hey, better safe than sorry.]
CAN YOU GET IT TO MAKE THE NOISE AGAIN?

[Gordon gestures to the Kricketune, and sure enough there's another loud noise from it.
In fact, there's two or three cries from it before it stops.]

THERE, THAT'S IT. IT'S LIKE A GUITAR — THE BELLY IS HOLLOW TO LET THE SOUND RESONATE. IT GETS TALLER, THE SHAPE OF THE HOLLOW CHANGES, THE SOUND CHANGES.
[Well, in theory, anyway. Because what is Pokemon logic.]

I GUESS THAT EXPLAINS THE NOISE. GOOD JOB, ALBERT. ANY IDEAS ABOUT THE REST OF IT?
