HELLO, EVERYONE. THIS IS GORDON COLE SPEAKING. I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT POKEMON EVOLUTION, AND I’M HOPING SOMEONE OUT THERE CAN ANSWER IT. NOW, I’VE READ THE HANDBOOK AND UNDERSTAND THAT POKEMON CAN CHANGE FORMS FOR SEVERAL REASONS, BUT I’M A LITTLE CONFUSED ABOUT SOMETHING. YESTERDAY, MY KRICKETOT EVOLVED INTO A KRICKETUNE. FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS IS NORMAL.

[Or as normal as the Pokémon world gets anyway.]

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO ASK THOUGH, IS HOW COMMON IS IT FOR A POKEMON TO MAKE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NOISE AFTER EVOLVING. I CAN ACTUALLY HEAR THIS SOMETIMES, AND I’M PRETTY SURE IT DIDN’T MAKE THAT NOISE BEFORE. IT SOUNDS LIKE…ACTUALLY, LET ME SHOW YOU.

IT’S REALLY STRANGE. ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW IF IT’S NORMAL FOR POKEMON TO GROW A MUSTACHE AFTER EVOLVING? BECAUSE THIS ONE DID. AT LEAST IT LOOKS LIKE A MUSTACHE. I'M NOT REALLY SURE WHAT IT IS.

GOLDENROD? WHAT ABOUT IT? I LIKE BEING HERE. SEEMS TO BE MORE LIKE A BIG CITY COMPARED TO VIOLET, CHERRYGROVE, AND NEW BARK TOWN.

YES. THEY HAVE. I'VE HEARD THAT IT'S ALSO COMPLETELY NORMAL FOR THEM TO CHANGE INTO SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. THAT'S NOT REALLY WHAT HAPPENED HERE THOUGH.

As I understand it, that's completely normal for the species. It actually happens to a lot of animals here, but I don't think I've ever really heard a sound like that. I think Kricketots and their evolutions are vaguely related to regular crickets from back home.

WHAT DO YOU MAKE OF IT?

[Well, fortunately he's got some existing life experience with giant bugs with blades for arms, being in the possession of a Scyther and all, so this isn't quite as traumatic or offensive to his sensibilities as it could be.

On the other hand, Gordon's cricket thing used to be small and pudgy and harmless. What the hell happened here?

And what is the deal with that mustache?]

WELL, IT SHOT UP ABOUT TWO FEET IN HEIGHT SINCE THE LAST TIME I SAW IT. MAYBE SOMETHING SHIFTED AROUND IN THERE TO TAKE UP THE SPACE, AND THAT ALTERED THE PITCH OF ITS NOISE.

It depends. We both want to get the badge first regardless. I personally think that having the capability of riding a flying animal would be pretty useful in a place with no airplanes.

Mio is a girl who came here at the same time I did. We started traveling together, and we haven't really stopped since then.

[Also, she's fifteen, so he'd feel awful if he left her to fend for herself.]

yeah. if you ever get a chance, look up darumaka and darmanitan in your dex. it's probably not the strangest evolution out there, but it sure surprised me.

DO YOU THINK THE NOISE CHANGED BECAUSE IT GOT TALLER, ALBERT?

[Gordon thinks he might be on to something there.]

YES, SIR. THAT'D BE MY BET.

[He is sort of cautiously approaching the Kricketune now, because he tends to maintain a sort of professional reservation about things with scythes for hands that are not under his direct control. Assuming it's the same bug, though, the temperament probably didn't change that much with evolution, and he doubts there'd be an issue...but hey, better safe than sorry.]

CAN YOU GET IT TO MAKE THE NOISE AGAIN?

OH. I DIDN'T TRAVEL WITH ANYONE THAT CAME HERE WHEN I DID, BUT STICKING TOGETHER IS PROBABLY A GOOD IDEA.
